Ophthalmic Assistant – Full-Time / Permanent

About the Role

Family 1 Optical is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Assistant to join our professional team in Brampton, Ontario. This full-time, permanent position offers the opportunity to work in a supportive, inclusive, and modern eye care environment focused on exceptional patient service and precision in every procedure.

As an Ophthalmic Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting ophthalmologists and optometrists during examinations, assisting patients throughout their eye care journey, and maintaining the highest standards of clinical and administrative efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer eye drops, ointments, and medications as directed by ophthalmologists.
• Operate and maintain ophthalmic testing and measuring instruments.
• Perform patient pre-testing, collect medical and vision histories.
• Process insurance and health claims accurately.
• Manage reception duties — scheduling, confirming appointments, and patient communication.
• Maintain inventory of medications, lenses, and clinical supplies.
• Sterilize and prepare instruments according to safety protocols.
• Record and organize patient data in compliance with clinic standards.
• Assist in eyeglass and contact lens specifications from prescriptions.
• Support physicians and staff to ensure smooth daily operations.

Requirements

• Education: Secondary (High School) diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: Previous experience in an ophthalmic or optical setting is an asset.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy under pressure.
• Team-oriented, reliable, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
• Ability to work 38–40 hours per week in person at the Brampton clinic.

Compensation

• Pay Rate: $36.50 per hour (full-time, permanent position).
